It looks like Disney is finally getting the picture: women do not need or want to be rescued. In fact, we are more than capable of doing the rescuing.
The new Huffy Disney Princess Bikes features two adventure-loving girls who are on a mission to rescue the prince. Check it out below:
Sure, this commercial is still a bit problematic with the colors chosen for the bikes (the same baby blue, pink, and violet color scheme) and the gigantic heart in the middle (because wouldn't like bikes unless they are cutesy)--but it's a step forward.
Although this is only one commercial let's hope this trend spreads into Disney scripts and films. I mean, how bad ass would it be to have a new generation of girls enjoying films where the typical princess steps away from the helpless-girl-sitting-in-a-tower-waiting-for-a-man syndrome. And Disney can we maybe throw in a role with a positive image of the LGBTQIA community? Just saying.
